Combating Extremism in Kosovo: Trends, Challenges, and Counteractions
In Mitrovica, the next workshop was held on the topic “Early warning and early action against extremist ideologies,” an activity aimed at addressing one of the biggest challenges for the local community and beyond. During this workshop, important topics such as extremism in schools, religious extremism, ethnonationalism, anti-gender narratives, and political extremism were discussed. Participants focused on identifying the causes and factors of these phenomena, as well as developing mechanisms and strategies to prevent forms of extremism and radicalization.
The workshop brought together local representatives from the municipalities of Mitrovica, Vushtrri, and Skenderaj, religious leaders, representatives from educational institutions, and officials from the Kosovo Police. All contributed with their experiences and knowledge, sharing perspectives on the challenges and possible solutions to deal with these extremist ideologies.
The discussions highlighted the importance of close cooperation between institutions, religious leaders, and the local community, as well as the need for raising awareness in schools and other social environments. Additionally, the group work during the workshop helped exchange ideas and perspectives among the participants, offering a broader view of possible approaches and mechanisms.
This workshop was seen as an important step towards empowering the community to address the complex challenges of right-wing extremism and extremist ideologies. The activity was realized with the support of the Matra program of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kosovo.
