Kosovo at a Crossroads: From the Past to the Present to Understand Security, Rights, and Social Challenges Today

On August 31, we were in Ferizaj for the next public discussion with citizens, as part of the project “Combating Extremism in Kosovo: Trends, Challenges, and Counteractions”, supported by the Matra program of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kosovo. This discussion was organized in collaboration with the youth organization Rin’on from Ferizaj.

The event began with a discussion on what political extremism is, the threat it poses to society, especially to young people, and the generational differences in understanding these social phenomena.

Additionally, during this meeting, issues such as problems in schools, youth bullying, the misuse of social networks, and the ideologization of young people through these networks and online games, where hate speech is spread, were addressed. It was highlighted how these platforms incite violence against others and even self-harm.

To address these problems, discussions also focused on ways to engage young people against extremism, such as being open to other cultures and ways of living, as well as the importance of raising their voices and their social and political activism.
