Combating Extremism in Kosovo: Trends, Challenges, and Counteractions
On September 30, in collaboration with the CASA organization, the fourth public discussion was held in North Mitrovica, as part of the project “Combating Extremism in Kosovo: Trends, Challenges, and Counter-measures”, supported by the Matra program of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Kosovo.
The discussion was moderated by Boban Simic, while the topic titled “Understanding Extremism in Intra-Community Contexts” was addressed by lecturer Bojan Elek. The discussion began with immediate interaction with the participants, contributing to an open atmosphere that made the discussion even more productive.

Elek provided a comprehensive analysis of extremism, describing the key factors that contribute to its emergence. He highlighted three essential components: understanding extremism, the emotional responses it triggers, and the actions it incites in individuals. He explained that extremism is often the result of a combination of social, natural, and marginalizing circumstances, stemming from the influences of belonging, identity, leaders, but also including the significant role that social networks play in the rise of extremism.

In addition to the lecture by Bojan Elek, participants also shared their experiences and personal thoughts related to extremism within the community, contributing to a rich and meaningful conversation that reflects the complexity of the phenomenon of extremism.
